المصدر 24 - صدمت الحكومة البريطانية الرأي العام بإعلانها عن أكبر إصلاح للجوء منذ سنوات، بوضع مؤقت للاجئين وفترة انتظار للإقامة الدائمة تصل إلى 20 عاماً، في خطوة قد تهز حياة آلاف اللاجئين وتعيد تعريف مفهوم الأمل لديهم، في أكبر انقلاب على سياسات اللجوء في العصر الحديث.
وتعمل حكومة حزب العمال على تشديد سياساتها المتعلقة بالهجرة، لا سيما في ما يخص العبور غير القانوني للقوارب الصغيرة من فرنسا.
وقالت وزارة الداخلية في بيان، إنه في إطار تلك التغييرات، سيتم إلغاء الواجب القانوني المتمثل في تقديم الدعم لبعض طالبي اللجوء، بما في ذلك السكن والإعانات الأسبوعية.
وأضافت الوزارة أن هذه الإجراءات ستطبق على طالبي اللجوء القادرين على العمل لكنهم يختارون عدم القيام بذلك، وعلى من يخالفون القانون.
وذكرت أن الأولوية في الحصول على الدعم الممول من دافعي الضرائب ستكون لمن يساهمون في الاقتصاد والمجتمعات المحلية.
وقالت وزارة الداخلية أيضاً إن حماية اللاجئين ستكون «مؤقتة الآن، وتخضع للمراجعة بشكل دوري ويتم إلغاؤها» إذا صارت الدول الأصلية للاجئين آمنة.
وقالت وزيرة الداخلية شابانا محمود لشبكة «سكاي نيوز» أمس (الأحد): «نظامنا شديد السخاء مقارنة مع دول أوروبية أخرى، إذ يُصبح الشخص مستقراً تلقائياً في البلد بعد خمس سنوات.. سنُغير ذلك».
وأضافت أنه بموجب التغييرات، ستتم مراجعة وضع اللاجئ كل عامين ونصف العام، في إطار «مسار أطول بكثير يمتد 20 عاماً قبل الاستقرار الدائم في هذا البلد».
وذكرت الوزيرة أنها ستقدم، الإثنين، مزيداً من التفاصيل حول هذه الإجراءات، بما في ذلك إعلان بشأن المادة الثامنة من الاتفاقية الأوروبية لحقوق الإنسان. وتُشير استطلاعات الرأي إلى أن الهجرة تخطت الاقتصاد لتصبح الشاغل الأكبر للناخبين.
وتقدم 109343 شخصاً بطلبات لجوء في المملكة المتحدة حتى مارس 2025، بزيادة قدرها 17% عن العام السابق، و6% فوق الذروة المسجلة عام 2002 التي بلغت 103081 طلب لجوء.

The Labour government is tightening its immigration policies, particularly regarding the illegal crossing of small boats from France.
The Home Office stated in a statement that as part of these changes, the legal obligation to provide support to certain asylum seekers, including housing and weekly allowances, will be abolished.
The ministry added that these measures will apply to asylum seekers who are able to work but choose not to, as well as to those who violate the law.
It mentioned that priority for taxpayer-funded support will be given to those who contribute to the economy and local communities.
The Home Office also stated that the protection of refugees will be "temporary now, subject to periodic review and can be revoked" if the refugees' countries of origin become safe.
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood told Sky News yesterday (Sunday): "Our system is very generous compared to other European countries, as a person automatically becomes settled in the country after five years... We will change that."
She added that under the changes, refugee status will be reviewed every two and a half years, as part of "a much longer pathway extending 20 years before permanent settlement in this country."
The minister mentioned that she will provide more details about these measures on Monday, including an announcement regarding Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights. Polls indicate that immigration has surpassed the economy to become the biggest concern for voters.
As of March 2025, 109,343 people had applied for asylum in the UK, an increase of 17% from the previous year, and 6% above the peak recorded in 2002, which was 103,081 asylum applications.
